16:9 is a common aspect ratio used in video. It refers to the proportions of 16 units across to 9 units high. Video formats such as 1080 (1920×1080) or 720 (1280×720) are both common examples of the 16:9 aspect ratio used for video production.
16:9 is considered a wide screen movie format.
