Grain


Grain is another name for Noise.   This term is a holdover from the days of film, when a higher ISO film would have larger grains of silver to absorb more light.  The grain would then refer to decrease in image quality as the photo would look ‘grainy’. With Digital Photography, Noise is the more appropriate term as the signal noise increase with higher ISO settings.
