A Meter is a device in your camera that helps you calculate the best exposure for the scene. Almost every digital camera will have a meter of some kind built into it. Exposure / Light meters can be simple or very complex and provide options like spot metering.
Meter is also a verb, as in “I am going to carefully meter this scene to get a great exposure”.
A meter is also a unit of length equal to about 39 inches.
