Digital Zoom

Digital Zoom is used to describe magnification (zooming) via software.  This term is usually used to differentiate from “Optical Zoom” which uses physical methods (glass lens) to magnify the image to be taken.

When comparing specifications on a camera, it’s important to note whether optical or digital zoom is used in the focal length specs as optical zoom is generally preferred.
