Underexpose

Underexpose describes an event where an image (or part of it) has not received enough light than is desired by the photographer.  Extreme underexposure can be fixed with software adjustments, but usually leads to excessive noise.  Photos that are minimally underexposed can be easily corrected.

Underexposure is the opposite of overexposure (too much light).
