ISO

ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is a numeric term which designates how sensitive to light the camera’s sensor is. A higher number means that the sensor will be able to record an image in lower light, but will introduce more digital noise.  A lower number indicates the sensor will need more light, but produce a cleaner image.

ISO is the modern equivalent of the term ASA that was used to designate ‘film speed’ and a film’s sensitivity to light.
